Bentonite clay, to drink and for deodarants ...

July 26, 2017

I first got in touch with edible clay in 2014.

A woman named Masha Ru, an artist from Russia and myself were part of an art experiment.

We were with 7 people in a 5 day experiment on location called Starvation.

From Monday till Friday we were sleeping in a huge room that was the second floor of Mediamatic; a Dutch cultural institute in Amsterdam that hosts a lot of amazing arty and experimental things.

Masha and I were part of it because both of us made edible things. And that was a great contrast to the fasting we did as part of the “Starvation” experiment.

I never heard of edible clay then and I remember being a bit weirded out about it and fascinated at the same time.

What I remember of Masha is that she had a beautiful clear skin and a very beautiful and even skin tone. Who knows if it was the clay, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

When you think about it, it is not so weird that it should also be suitable to eat.

If we put clay on our bodies as masks, it also enters our bloodstream.

So if it’s suitable for that, it must also be suitable for ingesting.

At first I wasn’t keen on trying it, before we entered the Starvation experiment. Or did we taste it afterwards ….

I remember, and you might too, having mud on my face and or hand growing up and if that mud came in contact with my mouth through food or else I wasn’t particularly charmed of the taste …

Fast forward to a few weeks ago.

As you might now I have been making new deodorants. And recently I decided to add Bentonite Clay to them.

I want to offer something different and I love using and working with ingredients that do multiple things such as; Great for Skin and detoxifying at the same time.

I could choose between food grade and cosmetic grade Bentonite for my deodorants and I decided to go for food grade.

This is of purer quality and I can drink it first thing in the morning / adviced is 30 minutes before breakfast \ and evening before sleeping.

Although it feels a bit different still, it actually tastes ok, it has a milky texture and I already feel my hair and skin look and feel better. My skin looks more even and my hair feels fuller and softer.

It is said to do the following when you ingest it, this is a copy past from Dr Axe’s website:

 ** How Bentonite Clay Works

We come into contact with a range of toxins numerous times every day, as toxins are given off from common products like paint, cleaning supplies, markers, substances used in building homes, low-quality unpurified water, and even pesticides that are widely sprayed regions that have farming present. It is quite common to inject a range of different toxins just by breathing in the fumes that are present all around us, not to mention the toxins that we receive from an unhealthy diet filled with low-quality processed foods.

“Heavy metal toxins” usually refer to substances like mercury, cadmium, lead and benzene. These can be found in the products previously mentioned, and also in foods that contain high fructose corn syrup or certain types of fish. Bentonite clay benefits your body by helping to expel many of these toxins (thus as part of a heavy metal detox) and can increase immunity and reduce inflammation. (1)

On top of being able to draw-out toxins from the body, the clay itself has a range of nutrients. Bentonite clay is known to have an abundance of minerals, including calcium, magnesium, silica, sodium, copper, iron and potassium.

When ingested into the body, either in a drink form or by eating the clay, its vitamins and minerals are absorbed similarly to how a supplement would be. Therefore, some people use it as a supplement since the clay is a natural source of important dietary nutrients. **

I hope this convinced you to try it out for yourself. In Dutch we say: "Baat het niet, schaadt het niet" which means something like: If it doesn't do anything for you, it won't harm you either.

With every deodorant you order you will get a free sample of bentonite clay which is enough for one cup. Just add the option to your order. And since we all have a unique biology make-up, always first check if you are not allergic to any of these things before ingesting or topically applying.

See you back in here soon!

Lots of Love,

Monique
